“There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now.” – John 16:12 NLT
One of the graces of God is that He reveals His person, plan, and purpose to us progressively. He knows we cannot handle everything all at once, so He only doles out what we need when we need to know and experience it.
Sometimes, God’s progressive revelation can be frustrating. For instance, there are times He reveals what He wants us to do before He reveals why. Or, perhaps you have thought, “If I knew this was part of the plan, I would have never followed Jesus in the first place.” God knew that, which is why He did not reveal everything to you all at once.
God knows that He will carry us through every difficult circumstance. The reality is, we have to learn that through experience–a little at a time. So, even though there is much more further down the trail, God only reveals what we can bear.
This idea should make us trust God more, not less. His goal is to keep our feet on the path toward Him. Nothing is going to change that. Our goal is to be fully obedient to what we do know.
