Proper Use of Authority

Proper Use of Authority

Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. – John‬ ‭13:3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

What would you do with supreme authority if it was given to you? Would your right every wrong, punish every evil doer, or bring order to our mixed up, greedy world?

Jesus shows us how different we are from Him in this passage. John says Jesus knew He had all authority, so He washed the apostle’s feet. Even in the last moments of His life, Jesus used the greatest authority in the universe to teach by example about serving.

So much of Christianity today is about what Jesus can and will do for you. It is about how, by following Jesus, your life gets better. Those things are true, but if your benefit is the reason for your fealty, you are missing the point. Service is the defining characteristic of a Jesus follower. If you are not serving, you are not following.
