“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” – John 14:27 NLT
Jesus gives His followers many gifts, but perhaps the most often ignored is peace. I am convinced that peace is not only a gift from Jesus, but also evidence of His work in one’s life. The knowledge that He has conquered death, that He is with us, and that He is advocating for us settles the believer’s heart and mind in times of uncertainty.
Peace is not a false assurance that the current situation will turn out favorably. It is to trust that not matter how the present matter is resolved, your ultimate destiny is secure. It is to believe that present troubles are nothing compared to the coming glory.
That why we are instructed to combat anxiety with prayer (Phil 4:6-7). When we pray, we reconnect with the truth that we do not live in the here-and-now, but in the heavenly realms with Jesus.
Grab Jesus’ gift of peace. Let it do its work.
