“He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.” – John 3:30 NLT
The more dominion Jesus gains in your life, the less influence you have. This is an obvious truth, yet we all struggle with it.
So often we pray, “I want more of You, Jesus.” But, are not as comfortable honestly praying, “I want less of me.” We cannot receive more Spirit without rejecting self. One must replace the other.
To receive the peace of God, we must also reject the parts of ourselves that strive against others. To receive God’s call, we must reject our own ambition. To receive God’s patience, we must reject our own priority. He only becomes more when we become less.
The paradox is this: as He becomes more and we become less, we realize how much of ourselves was illusion. We were never as much as we thought, and Jesus was always more than we could imagine. We were mole-hills tilting against a mountain. But, when we make Him more, He makes us more than we ever were.
